Unlike all my other art, this guy actually has a story. I'm involved in Odyssey of the Mind, a team competition in which groups of 5-7 kids from kindergarten through college compete on Regional, State, and World levels in one of 5 problems. [link]

Each problem requires an 8 minute skit with various plot, character, and prop requirements, which are scored on things like creativity, originality, and artistic quality. We needed a wildlife encounter. Enter the owl. This guy was with us all the way to world finals

Since there's a cost limit, there's a general rule that you should use trash whenever possible (it goes down as $0 on the cost form). Buying new materials doesn't go down well when it's time to tally things up. This owl is made of leaf bags, used sandpaper, a Pepsi can, a rock for balance, and lots of cheap pencils, bashed open with bricks. And memories. His wings flap too, although you can't see the mechanism he hangs from.
